Franchise overview
The Tampa Bay Lightning joined the NHL in 1992 and play in downtown Tampa. The club competes in the Atlantic Division and has become one of the league’s strongest examples of a successful warm-weather hockey market.
Tampa Bay has won Stanley Cups in 2004, 2020 and 2021. The back-to-back championships were followed by another trip to the Stanley Cup Final in 2022, extending one of the most successful stretches in modern NHL history.
Home venue
Benchmark International Arena is the Lightning’s downtown Tampa home. The arena sits in the Channelside district near the waterfront and has been central to the growth of hockey culture throughout the Tampa Bay region.
Florida identity
The Lightning helped normalize major-league hockey in Florida and built one of the strongest fan cultures in the Sun Belt. Their success, combined with the Panthers’ rise, has made Florida an unusually important state on the modern NHL map.
