One major franchise, a big regional footprint
Jacksonville is different from Miami, Tampa Bay and Orlando because it has only one franchise in the NFL/NBA/MLB/NHL/MLS group covered by FloridaTeams: the Jaguars. That concentration makes the NFL team a larger part of the city’s major-league identity than any single franchise in Florida’s more crowded markets.
The Jaguars also serve a wider Northeast Florida and South Georgia audience, giving the franchise a regional reach that extends beyond Duval County.
EverBank Stadium is more than a Jaguars venue
EverBank Stadium is the center of Jacksonville’s biggest sports weekends. In addition to Jaguars home games, it hosts the annual Florida–Georgia college football matchup, one of the sport’s best-known neutral-site rivalries.
The stadium’s downtown riverfront setting means major games become city events, with tailgating and surrounding activity spreading beyond the venue itself.
College football fills the gaps
Jacksonville does not have a Power-conference university in the city, but college football remains important because of the Florida–Georgia game, bowl events and the large number of Gators, Seminoles, Bulldogs and other alumni in the region.
That makes the city a useful reminder that Florida sports markets do not map neatly onto franchise boundaries. College loyalties often overlap with the Jaguars rather than compete with them.
What to follow
If you live in Northeast Florida, the Jaguars are the obvious weekly major-league anchor from September through the winter. For the rest of the year, many fans adopt MLB, NBA or NHL teams from elsewhere in the state or keep their strongest loyalty with college sports.
FloridaTeams keeps Jacksonville in the same statewide dashboard so that a Jaguars fan can follow those cross-state teams without treating the city as an isolated market.
How this guide is maintained
FloridaTeams uses official team, league, venue and university sources for time-sensitive details, then adds its own statewide organization and commentary. Live scores and external headlines are handled separately on the FloridaTeams dashboard. See the Editorial Policy for sourcing and corrections standards.
