Florida rarely has an off-season
One reason a statewide sports dashboard works in Florida is that the major seasons overlap almost continuously. Baseball fills spring and summer, football dominates fall, basketball and hockey carry winter, and MLS now stretches across much of the year.
Exact league dates change every season, so this is a planning guide rather than a fixed schedule. Use the live FloridaTeams scoreboard for today’s games and official league/team schedules for tickets.
January through March
January can feature NFL playoffs, the heart of the NBA and NHL regular seasons, college basketball conference play and the end of college football bowl season. By February and March, MLB spring training takes over much of Florida while MLS begins its season and college basketball builds toward March tournaments.
Florida is especially strong for spring-training travel because both the Grapefruit League and warm weather bring MLB clubs from around the country into the state.
April through June
April is one of the busiest crossover periods: MLB begins, NBA and NHL regular seasons end, playoffs begin, MLS is underway and college spring sports remain active.
May and June can produce the best championship overlap. Florida has had recent NBA Finals and Stanley Cup Final runs during this part of the calendar, while MLB and MLS continue their regular seasons.
July through September
July is primarily MLB and MLS at the major professional level, with training camps starting to pull attention toward football. August adds NFL preseason and the beginning of college football preparation.
By September, the calendar is full: NFL and college football are underway, MLB enters the pennant race, MLS approaches its stretch run, and NBA/NHL training camps are close.
October through December
October is arguably the densest month. NFL and college football are in full swing, MLB reaches the postseason, MLS enters its playoff period, and the NBA and NHL begin their regular seasons.
November and December settle into football plus basketball and hockey, with college basketball also ramping up. For multi-sport fans, this is the easiest time to find several Florida teams active in the same week.
