Start with where you live — but do not stop there
Geography is the cleanest shortcut. South Florida naturally points toward Miami-area teams and the Panthers; Tampa Bay offers a strong three-league core; Orlando gives you the Magic, Orlando City and UCF; Jacksonville is Jaguars country. But Florida is full of transplants, so there is no rule that your ZIP code has to choose your team.
A better question is what kind of sports story you enjoy: old history, recent championships, rebuilding, star power, college tradition or local identity.
If you want history
The Dolphins give you the Perfect Season and a franchise that reaches back to the 1960s. In college football, Florida, Florida State and Miami offer national-title histories and rivalries that shaped entire eras of the sport.
Baseball fans who value unlikely postseason runs may appreciate the Marlins, whose first two World Series appearances both ended in championships.
If you want recent winning
Florida hockey is the obvious place to look. The Lightning won Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021, and the Panthers followed with consecutive titles in 2024 and 2025. Inter Miami added MLS Cup in 2025 after earlier major trophies.
The Buccaneers’ 2020 Super Bowl is also recent enough to define the current generation of Tampa Bay fans.
If you want the strongest local-city connection
The Jaguars are Jacksonville’s only franchise in the traditional NFL/NBA/MLB/NHL group, which makes them unusually central to the city. Orlando City built much of its identity from a supporter culture that predates the club’s MLS membership. UCF similarly gives Orlando a major campus-centered football experience.
In Miami and Tampa Bay, the benefit is choice: several teams share the same broader regional identity, so following one often leads naturally to the others.
If you simply want games that are easy to attend
Pick based on venue location and your actual routine. A team you can see in person several times a year is often easier to build a connection with than a theoretically “perfect” team four hours away.
Use the FloridaTeams venue and regional guides to understand where the games really happen, then use the live dashboard to see what is on today.
How this guide is maintained
FloridaTeams uses official team, league, venue and university sources for time-sensitive details, then adds its own statewide organization and commentary. Live scores and external headlines are handled separately on the FloridaTeams dashboard. See the Editorial Policy for sourcing and corrections standards.
